Rob Ot

The robotic competition is two days’ away. My fingers need soaking in a bucket of ice after assembling the robot with two other teammates for two hours today. The programming process is proving to be a little too tedious. My team (inclusive of the teacher) are all girls/females. And girls are known for their adeptness in robotic construction and computer programming, are they not? (This is your cue to snort.)
Oh boy.

Forgive me. I needed to kvetch a little.

Focus

Posted by azngeek at July 19th, 2008

Last night I went out with my friend, for simplicity’s sake, lets call her Soccer Girl™. I usually see her at the end of every semester. Went to high school with her for a couple of months before I moved to a different school. The stuff we usually do when we meet up would consist usually of a movie, food, and a drink, and a long talk. She reflects on herself to me, I reflect on myself to her. I’m not sure what kinda categories our talks would be put under. But man, they are always thoughtful and so contemplative; it’s quite hard to imagine that I’d get myself into conversations like that. ( I had a similar conversation with Economics Girl™ as well -> I have no idea how I lend myself into situations like these. At least it only happens about twice a year, for the most part haha)

And it’s got me thinking, thinking about, how much I’ve lost focus on the things that really mattered to me. For a while there, I was putting in so much effort on things that didn’t really matter hugely to me. And the things that mattered, took a back seat for a while. I haven’t really let friends into my thoughts, and it’s been more on a need to know basis. And I think it might have been because I was reciprocating on the fact that was what they were doing it as well. That’s just how guys roll. Haha. I just said that’s how guys roll. I am now officially hip and cool.

But I think I’ve just been given you know that refreshing dip into a sea of focus. I think I’m ready to get out of this status-quo of indecision.

In The Beginning, K’naan

Posted by azngeek at July 14th, 2008

So -
In the beginning there was hum
from a poet whose pulse felt
DRUM DRUM DRUM!
He would perform prayers and all
till one day he heard a voice call
COME COME COME!
Just because he moved it was his cost
Just because he thinks he was a little lost.
People get held back
by the voice inside ‘em.

Yo -
The voice said a voice speak inside you,
Rejoice and please let me invite you.
To evil greed and lies too.

Yeah
Confusing days he moved in ways it soon became hakuna
Koon Koon Koon.
and knock on his door the lord is no more
and knock on his door his soul is no more

la la la la…yeah
la la la la…that was in the beginning
la la la la…as the story goes on
la la la la…

So, so so-
The poets got a proposal
he would always hope but never know
what it feels to be free.
He would be the frozen imposed as the toes on all of the posin’
But it would be greed.
thats got him there
he’s bound, hungry and, proud too.
People don’t care, people just scared,
People don’t care, people just prayer.

la la la la…yeah
la la la la…that was in the beginning
la la la la…there was a hum
la la la la…and things changed
la la la la…yeah, yeah

say-
it’s better to light a candle than to curse the dark
in the eyes of the youth there are question marks
like freedom, freedom for the mind and soul
we don’t see em,
see them for their worth at all.
that’s why we lead em
lead em to these wars and what is it we feed em
feed em our impurities and who it is we treat em
treat em like the enemy humanity will need em
need em like the blood we spill and where freedom

freedom for the hearts we fill
mislead em
they hunger for the love we give but we cheat em

the guys beat em and all he wants is his feedom em
so they defeat em

whatever spirit he’s got
beat em
and they teach em the rest of the world don’t need him
and he believes it’s a disease that he’s heathen
Put up your fists if all you want is freedom
Put up your fists if all you want is

la la la la…that was in the beginning
la la la la… and things change

yeah, yeah, yeah.

we keep holding on,
And we keep being strong,
And we keep going on,
and on and on and on.

3x
[ And we keep holding on,
And we keep being strong,
And we keep going on,
and on and on and on. ]

Root 3 - A love poem

Posted by azngeek at July 14th, 2008

Extracted from the movie Harold and Kumar: Escape From Guantanamo Bay

I fear that I will always be
A lonely number like root three

The three is all that’s good and right
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath the vicious square root sign
I wish instead I were a nine

For nine could thwart this evil trick
with just some quick arithmetic

I know I’ll never see the sun
as 1.7321
Such is my reality
a sad irrationality

When hark! What is this I see
Another square root of a three

As quietly come waltzing by
Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer
Rejoicing as an integer

We break free from our mortal bonds
With the wave of magic wands

Our square root signs become unglued
Your love for me has been renewed

From Melbourne With Love

Posted by azngeek at July 13th, 2008

Just got back from Melbourne today, flight was at 7 in the morning. The extremely accommodating host got up to see us off.Ron.jpg

The host with a mouthful of sour lollies!

Melbourne. Arrived on the 2nd of July. And was waiting for the host, who was no where in sight. There was apparently a muck up somewhere with the bank, ie disallowing him the necessary funds to make the perilous journey to the airport. No matter, as the night was still young, things eventually worked out. Met up with a friend from high school, and had dinner with Mike, the host, and Darren at Supper Inn.

Had heaps of fun in Melbourne. From the shopping, to the never ending walks, to the never ending pigging out. Was bloody brilliant. No pictures from said pigging out, shopping etc, but I have a few from the tours the host, me, and the sister(who decided to come a few days after me - last minute thing) went along for and a random outing at St. Kilda’s and a random walk with some of the host’s very welcoming friends ( Choo Xiang(sp?), Darren, Min, Chudge).

From St. Kilda’s, close by to a quaint little cafe with the most interesting looking service people

I can do asian poses too!

(And then onto the more tour-oriented pictures -> o, and if anyone of you noticed the graininess, it’s due to the phone camera being the only camera available to us. Yea. Someone borrowed my other camera permanently*rolls eyes*)

For the tour to Phillip Islands, we stopped at Waru Park on the way I think. Have some pictures from there.

Koala, doing it’s thing

I think I’ve had one too many drinks. They’ve multiplied!

And then they hung out with a victorian pirate. Arrrr!

We end up at Phillip islands to look at seals and penguins. But I have no photos of that. I fail as a photo blogger in that respect (maybe because I’m not really a photo blogger, ever thought about that?)

And then onto the next tour at Grampians. A national park. And I think I’ll post the rest of the damn pictures later. Getting really lazy… and here I was determined not very long ago to do a long picture post… hahha. I fail!

(edit: trying to unfail)

And then some scenery

Okay. So that concludes my photoblogging attempt. *shrug*

The Beginning of The End…

Posted by Morpork at July 7th, 2008

… of this decade.

… of this sentence.

… of your patience.

… of my mind.

I write to tell you the first decade is almost over and we can get on with the exciting world of confusing the decades with the ones from the previous century! It’s still a long time to go but I’d like to see people say the 80s one day and laugh at their face and reminisce like an old man.

That’s kinda dark. Bleak. Bleat. Meeeehhh…

Get it? Bleat like a sheep and meh? *nudge

…… I’ll just go stand there where you can’t see me now.
